The holidays are coming whether you’re ready or not! And while it seems WAY too early to be talking about the holidays, there are a few really important reasons why now is the time to start thinking ahead. If you’ve been following the news at all lately, you’ve probably heard that pretty much every supply chain in every industry is facing shortages and delays. And while our products don’t require manufactured parts, we do require key items and services like boxes, dry ice, butchering, and delivery! So here are our top tips for a smooth 2021 holiday season.
Shop Early.
Whether you’re shopping for someone special, yourself, or need something specific for a holiday tradition, if you have your eye on a particular item, we recommend snagging it as soon as you can to avoid missing out. Retailers have already been saying that many popular items will be out of stock or delayed until the new year. Many shipping companies, already overwhelmed from the past two years, have also indicated that delivery times will be slower this season and are urging customers to shop ahead. As far as our shop goes, we will have limited stock on some of our big ticket holiday bestsellers (like roasts, French Racks, and whole tenderloins) and our delivery cutoffs will be earlier this year as well to avoid delays. Start your shopping now!
Get On The List.
Many retailers (including us!) offer sign up lists for out of stock items. Sign up for these if something you want is out of stock. They are the fastest way to know if a product you want is back in stock as it’s usually tied directly to the inventory levels in the backend. As soon as inventory levels are updated, you’ll get an email. If you act fast, you can usually snag the item you want! Each of our products has a “sign up for an alert” button if it’s out of stock!
Sign Up For Delivery Managers.
We can’t recommend this enough. Most delivery services (UPS, FedEX, USPS) offer services to help you keep track of all your packages. Not only to they help y ou keep track of them, you can often switch where something is delivered, the delivery day, and even sign in advance if you know you won’t be home. All these things can help you manage online holiday shopping much easier. There are also third party providers that will help you to the same thing; some are free and some provide the service for a fee. Here are links to some of the main service providers to make signing up easy.
FedEx Delivery Manager: Sign up for this one to help you keep track of all your FedEx orders — including those from the Honest Bison! FedEx now requires signatures for orders valued over $500 so keep that in mind as well.
UPS MyChoice: Similar service but for all your UPS packages.
USPS Informed Delivery: USPS informed delivery will not only give you insight into packages coming your way, it will also let you know about any mail that’s coming to you. Very useful for keeping your eye on important mail.
Give recipients a head’s up.
As we are all too aware, package theft is on the rise these days. So if you’re sending someone a gift, let them know it’s on the way and when to expect it. You don’t have to tell them what it is, just tell them something is headed their way. This is especially important for products such as ours that might spoil if they aren’t brought inside immediately. And nothing is worse than a stolen or spoiled gift.
Send a Gift Card.
Not sure what to send or worried about shipping deadlines? Send a gift card instead. Most retailers and service providers have some form of gift cards by now — including us. They can be a great way to show you care and support a local small business during the season.Our gift cards get sent via regular mail which makes them more special than a digital card — at least in our opinion.
